sharp el-808

here is the compet liquid crystal el-808 from 1974. its not exactly pocket sized, but operates from batteries (4xAA) or from the optional mains adapter.

sharp were pioneers of liquid crystal displays and they were the first to market models with them.

bulletsharp's new portable calculator has all the magic of sharp's other calculators... and more! the high speed performance, the advanced precision engineered circuitry and the newly development "liquid crystal" display make the el-808 highly efficient and economical.

this early cos (calculator on substrate) display technology was to be superseded by the yellow lcd displays and then the grey ones used today.

pressing the on button also lifts the display cover which was required to shield the display from light making it easier to read.

the unit is very well built as were all early sharp machines like the pc-1001.
